How Do I Get Rid of Parasites? (Part 2)

I generally recommend working with an experienced practitioner when trying to parasite cleanse. It isn’t always straightforward. Additionally, unless you improve upon what is making you susceptible in the first place, the parasites will likely return.

If you address the parasite infection through your doctor, they may recommend a prescription drug depending on which type of parasite is present in the body. Unfortunately, unless the parasite shows up on a stool test your doctor may not be able to target the right parasites in the body.

Additionally, parasites are smart, and when attacked, they create biofilms to protect themselves. If you’re parasite cleansing, but don’t notice any change to your symptoms, you’ll want to consider a biofilm disruptor supplement. I always start with this in my practice. Your practitioner may also have you rotate, or cycle through, different herbs and antimicrobials depending on the length of your cleanse, your symptoms, and the different types of parasites you are targeting.

Preparing the body prior to a parasite cleanse

It is very important to work on your health foundations and to ensure your drainage pathways are open, prior to working on parasites. If you don’t have some foundations in place and your drainage pathways are clogged, the waste and the parasites themselves will not have a path out of the body and you may end up feeling pretty terrible.

Before cleansing, I also recommend working on your gut health. You’ll want to work on ensuring your body is producing enough stomach acid, you are properly hydrated and taking in enough minerals, and you are having 1-2 bowel movements per day. You’ll also want to make sure you have tools to help keep your nervous system and stress in check throughout the cleanse. I have a quiz on my website that you can take to see how your gut is functioning as well as resources on the blog section of my website for general gut health education.

Once you have your gut health and foundations in a decent place which can take about 4-6 weeks or even longer in some situations, the next step will begin to work on drainage and biofilm disruption. We’ll take a look at all of the drainage pathways and utilizing labs, signs and symptoms, and muscle testing, determine which pathways need support. We typically focus on drainage for about a month before we begin any antiparasitic and antimicrobial herbs to target the parasites. Depending on what you have going on, we may be working on a parasite for up to a few months.

During this time we continue to work on drainage, nervous system regulation, and health foundations and we will also have you include some anti-parasitic foods in your diet. We will also manage any negative reactions that may come up. The goal is for you to feel good throughout the cleanse.

How to decrease susceptibility to parasites

Many of the habits and strategies we work on during our time together will help your long-term susceptibility to parasites. Generally, some of the best things you can do to support your body not only to prepare to parasite cleanse but also to reduce your susceptibility include:

  1. Working to increase your stomach acid

  2. Heal your leaky gut

  3. Address your nutritional deficiencies

  4. Manage or reduce your stress

  5. Maintain open drainage pathways
